Financing of the Recycling System for Household Packaging
Financing of the Recycling System for Household Packaging
According to Law 11/97 on packaging and packaging waste, which requires packaging firms, distributors, and manufacturers to pay an extra fee to local governments for collecting household packaging waste on a selected basis, Ecoembes is a non-profit company.
Due to its non-profit status, it cannot turn a profit; instead, the expenses associated with developing and managing the household packaging waste management system determine its income. The sale of materials and Green Dot fees pay for these expenses.
Green Dot
The Green Dot is the mark that appears on packaging and denotes that the business is abiding by its legal obligation to handle the packaging once it becomes waste.
The Green Dot fees paid by businesses are determined by several working groups and strategic materials committees, and they are based on how much packaging each participating business places on the market annually.
