Frequently asked questions
The more packaging is placed on the market, the more Ecoembes earns?
No, that is not true. Ecoembes, since it is a non-profit organisation, does not earn any money, but receives it from companies to, subsequently, allocate it to funding the selective collection of residential packaging town halls throughout Spain carry out to meet their legal obligations. This is, the expenses define the income (not the profit), and not the other way around.
Under this essential premise, the more packaging there is in the market and the more they are placed in the corresponding bins when they become waste, the more resources there will be destined to ensure their correct recycling. Therefore, an increase in the amount of recycled packaging implies a greater maintenance cost of the selective collection system, which has to be financed by companies through Green Dot rate increases.
