Frequently asked questions

How can Ecoembes be a “non-profit organisation” and at the same time consist of large multinational companies?

It is in the first place a non-profit organisation because the current laws oblige Ecoembes to be so, such as the Packaging Law 11/1997 and the Waste Law 22/11. This means, among other things, that Ecoembes must have an economic balance according to which its expenses are the same as its income. Therefore, the profit for Ecoembes tax years must always be zero and, in the case of surplus, it must be allocated to subsequent years. Income, 100% allocated to maintaining the residential packaging recycling system in our country, come, as required by law, from companies in charge of placing that packaging in the market, under the basic principle that “the pollutant should pay”.
