Because there is a wide range of plastic (toys, furniture, vehicle parts and household appliances, etc.) that are left outside the scope of Ecoembes’ responsibility, which must meet the requirement set in Law 11/97 on packaging, exclusively for light residential packaging waste, whether of plastic or other materials: brick, metal (aluminium and steel) and paper/cardboard.

Moreover, current selection and recycling plants are technologically prepared to specifically process residential packaging waste, that coming from selective collection bins. If the yellow bin started receiving several plastic products that were not residential packaging, the process would lose its efficiency and agility, coming at the risk of not complying with the packaging recycling goals set by law.
