Ecoembes has no earnings, Ecoembes has no profit. Ecoembes is a Collective Extended Producer Responsibility System (SCRAP, in Spanish) and Law 11/97 on packaging and packaging waste and Law 22/11 on waste and polluted grounds determine that SCRAP must be non-profit entities, which means, among other things, that its profit must be 100% allocated to cover the cost in which Spanish town halls incur with the selective collection of packaging. Therefore, any economic surplus that may arise in a year may never be distributed among its members or shareholders, but must be allocated to financing expenses in the following year.
